Trivia
- The film's title 'Velaikkaran' means 'worker' or 'servant', reflecting the protagonist's journey from a village to a hotel job.
- This was one of the few films where actor Prabhu played a character who works in a luxury hotel setting.
- The movie features a notable villain role played by Nizhalgal Ravi, who was becoming popular for such characters in the late 1980s.
- Director S. P. Muthuraman and actor Prabhu collaborated on many successful films, but this is a less-discussed entry in their partnership.
- The soundtrack by Ilaiyaraaja includes the hit song 'Ennai Thottu', sung by K. J. Yesudas and S. Janaki.
- The plot involves a dramatic mother-son relationship twist, a common theme in Tamil cinema of that era.
- Despite the star cast, the film did not achieve the same box office success as other Prabhu movies from that period like 'Kalakalappu' or 'Manithan'.
