• Rajinikanth was still finding his footing as a lead when K. R. Vijaya — already a major star — agreed to play his mother in 'Naan Vazhavaippen' (1979). She was only 10 years older than him, but her stamp of approval gave the film instant credibility.
• In 'Ranga' (1982), Vijaya played Rajinikanth's love interest — a rare age-appropriate pairing for him at the time. She anchored his manic energy with a grounded, almost maternal warmth, making the romance feel less like a fanboy fantasy and more like two equals.
• K. R. Vijaya once said in an interview that Rajinikanth would call her 'Akka' (elder sister) off-screen, even when they played lovers on screen. He never broke that respect, even during romantic scenes.
• K. R. Vijaya told a Tamil magazine in the 80s: 'Rajini was a bundle of nerves in our first film. I told him, “Just react to me. I’ll carry the scene.” By 'Velaikaran', he was carrying me.'
• Their third and final film together, 'Velaikaran' (1987), was a box-office disaster. But it directly led to Rajinikanth deciding he needed to control his own image — he stopped accepting every random offer after that, and his next hit was 'Basha' (1995).
