Ganga Gowri(1973)
'Ganga Gowri' is a 1973 Indian Tamil-language Hindu mythological film directed and produced by B. R. Panthulu. The film stars Gemini Ganesan as Lord Shiva, Jayalalithaa as Ganga, and Jayanthi as Dakshayani/Gowri. It is a remake of Panthulu's own 1967 Kannada film 'Gange Gowri'. The story follows Ganga's unrequited love for Shiva and her jealousy towards his wife Dakshayani. The film was shot at Premier Studio in Mysore. Gemini Ganesan took dancing lessons to portray Shiva. The music was composed by M. S. Viswanathan with lyrics by Kannadasan. The film was released on 16 January 1973 and emerged a commercial success.

Storyline
Goddess Ganga falls in love with Lord Shiva, but he marries Dakshayani instead. Jealous and heartbroken, Ganga curses Dakshayani to be born as a mortal. On Earth, the cursed woman suffers as Gowri. Shiva must descend to save her and restore cosmic balance.
