Trivia
- The film's director Rajashekar is the father of popular actress Juhi Chawla, though he directed only a handful of films.
- It was one of the early films for actor Mithun Chakraborty after his National Award win for 'Mrigayaa'.
- The movie's plot of a son avenging his father's death echoes a common revenge theme in 1980s Bollywood action films.
- The soundtrack, composed by Bappi Lahiri, featured the popular song 'Aaja Meri Jaan' sung by Kishore Kumar.
- Despite the star power of Mithun, the film did not achieve major commercial success at the box office.
- The film's title 'Gangvaa' is an uncommon word in Hindi, roughly translating to 'one who is duped or deceived'.
- Actress Kimi Katkar, who played the female lead, made her film debut just a year prior in 1983.
