Mersal(2017)
Mersal is a 2017 Indian Tamil-language action thriller film directed by Atlee and produced by Thenandal Studio Limited as their 100th production. The film stars Vijay in a triple role as a doctor, a magician, and a village chieftain, alongside S. J. Suryah, Kajal Aggarwal, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, and Nithya Menen. The story follows Dr. Maaran, a compassionate doctor who charges only 5 rupees, and his estranged brother Vetri, a magician seeking revenge for their mother's death caused by corrupt doctors. The narrative shifts between the present and the 1970s, revealing a family tragedy and a fight against medical malpractice. The film received positive reviews for its performances, music by A. R. Rahman, and social message, but was criticized for its length and clichéd plot.
