Devathayai Kanden is a 2005 Indian Tamil-language romantic drama film written and directed by Boopathy Pandian in his directorial debut. The film stars Dhanush as Babu, a tea vendor, and Sridevi Vijaykumar as Uma, a wealthy college student. Karunas and Kunal play supporting roles. The story follows Babu's love for Uma, her decision to leave him for a richer man, and his subsequent court case against her for breaking a promise. The film explores class conflict, self-respect, and the painful choice between love and money. It was released on 14 January 2005 during Pongal and was a commercial success. The film was later remade in Kannada as Jaaji Mallige in 2009.

Storyline
