• Dhanush was just 22 and already a star when he signed Adhu Oru Kana Kaalam (2005). Thalaivasal Vijay was cast as his father — but the director, newcomer M. S. Sakthivel, was nervous about pairing a young mass hero with a stage veteran. Dhanush insisted, saying Vijay's theatre background would ground the emotional scenes.
• In Anegan (2015), Thalaivasal Vijay played Dhanush's father again — but this time, the script demanded a raw, shouting confrontation. Vijay deliberately underplayed his lines in the first take, forcing Dhanush to raise his volume and intensity. Dhanush later told the crew that Vijay's silence in that scene made him angrier than any yelling could.
• For Asuran (2019), Dhanush asked Thalaivasal Vijay to not rehearse their big father-son argument. Vijay agreed — and on set, he deliberately paused two seconds longer than expected before each reply. That off-beat rhythm made Dhanush's character feel genuinely cornered, and the take made it to the final cut.
• Thalaivasal Vijay still calls Dhanush 'Kutty' (little one) — a nickname from the Adhu Oru Kana Kaalam sets in 2005. Even during Asuran promotions in 2019, Vijay would slip into that name when they met backstage, and Dhanush would grin every time.
