• Dhanush personally called Karunas to offer him the role in 'Polladhavan' (2007). Karunas was hesitant because the character was a small-time rowdy, but Dhanush convinced him it would be a game-changer. It was — that film put both of them on the map as a solid on-screen pair.
• In 'Yaaradi Nee Mohini' (2008), Karunas improvised the entire 'Kadhal Vaithu' scene where he teases Dhanush about his love life. Dhanush couldn't keep a straight face during the take — the director kept the flubs in the final cut because the laughter felt real.
