Surya Vamsam is a 1997 Indian Tamil-language drama film written and directed by Vikraman. The film stars R. Sarathkumar in a dual role as Sakthivel Gounder and Chinnarasu Gounder, alongside Devayani, Radhika Sarathkumar, and Priya Raman. The story is set in a village near Pollachi and revolves around a strict father who hates his youngest son for being uneducated. The film explores themes of family conflict, sacrifice, and the value of kindness over academic achievement. Surya Vamsam was released on 27 June 1997 and became one of the most successful Tamil films of the year. It won six Tamil Nadu State Film Awards including Best Film, Best Director, and Best Actress. The film was remade in Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, and Bhojpuri languages.

Storyline
A wealthy and educated father named Sakthivel Gounder hates his youngest son Chinnarasu for being uneducated. Chinnarasu is kind-hearted but misunderstood, and his father's rejection forces him to leave home. With the love of his wife Nandini, Chinnarasu builds a successful life from nothing. But can he ever win back his father's love and heal their broken family?
