Kadhal Desam is a 1996 Indian Tamil-language teen romance film written and directed by Kathir. It stars Vineeth, Abbas, and Tabu in lead roles, with Tabu making her Tamil debut. The story follows two college students from rival institutions who become close friends, only to face a crisis when both fall for the same girl. Set against the backdrop of a real-life rivalry between Pachaiyappa's College and Loyola College in Chennai, the film explores themes of friendship, class difference, and selfless love. The music by A. R. Rahman and cinematography by K. V. Anand were widely praised. The film was a box-office success and won Rahman his fifth consecutive Filmfare Award for Best Music Director – Tamil. It was released on 23 August 1996.
