• Kathir Subbiah was a first-time director when he cast Kathir as the lead in Idhayam (1991). The actor was a newcomer too — they basically learned filmmaking together on that set.
• On Uzhavan (1993), Kathir Subbiah wrote the role of a farmer specifically around Kathir's raw, understated style. The actor didn't do big dialogues — he let his eyes and silence carry the emotion, and the director built the entire film around that restraint.
• Kadhal Desam (1996) launched the careers of two newcomers — Abbas and Tabu — both handpicked by Kathir Subbiah after Kathir suggested they audition fresh faces instead of established stars.
