→Trivia
- The film's title 'Karuppu Nila' translates to 'Black Moon', a poetic metaphor for the dark times the protagonist faces.
- This was one of the few films where actor Vijayakanth played a dual role, portraying both father Selvanayagam and son Shanmuga Pandian.
- Director Aravindraj R is the son of veteran director A. P. Nagarajan, known for his mythological films, making this a shift to a contemporary family drama.
- The movie features an early screen appearance of actress Rambha, who plays Nandhini, shortly after her debut in the Tamil film industry.
- Composer Deva, known for his folk and fast-paced numbers, provided the music, with the song 'Muthu Muthu' becoming a notable hit.
- The plot involving a false accusation of supplying weapons to terrorists reflected real-world anxieties in 1990s Tamil Nadu.
- Despite its dramatic storyline, the film was not a major commercial success, overshadowed by bigger releases that year.
