• Kushboo was the one who pushed for R. Sundarrajan to direct her in 'Thalattu Padava' (1990). She had just seen his work and called him directly, saying she wanted to act in a film he directed. He was surprised — she was a huge star, he was still finding his footing.
• On the sets of 'En Kitta Mothathey' (1990), Sundarrajan would deliberately give Kushboo minimal dialogue in key emotional scenes. He knew she could say more with her eyes than with lines. That film became their highest-rated collaboration.
• During the shoot of 'Karuppu Nila' (1995), Kushboo and Sundarrajan had a falling out over a scheduling clash. They didn't speak for three days. Then Sundarrajan showed up at her house with a box of her favourite sweets, and they patched things up before the next scene.
• Their 1995 film 'Kolangal' directly inspired a wave of rural-family dramas in Tamil cinema. Several directors later admitted they wrote similar mother-son conflict stories after watching how Sundarrajan and Kushboo handled that dynamic on screen.
• Kushboo once said in a 1996 interview: 'Sundarrajan is the only director who made me cry on set without telling me the full scene. He'd just say, "Think of your mother," and roll camera. I trusted him blindly.'
• In 'Simmarasi' (1998), their last film together, Sundarrajan wrote a scene where Kushboo's character slaps him. He insisted she actually hit him — no cut, no stunt. She refused twice. He said, 'If you don't, the audience won't believe you hate me.' She did it. One take.
