He represented India in 19 Test matches between 1999 and 2001, scoring 1,467 runs at an average of 37.97 with two centuries, and notably became the first Indian cricketer to take a wicket off his first ball in ODI cricket. In Potta Potti, he played a fictionalized version of himself — a lost former cricketer who coaches two bumbling village cousins in cricket.
