S. P. Venkatesh (1955–2026) was a prolific music composer primarily known for his work in Malayalam cinema, with significant contributions to Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Bengali films over a career spanning more than four decades. He won the 1993 Kerala State Film Award for Best Music Director and the 1993 Filmfare Award for Best Music Director for his score in 'Paithrukam', and composed for landmark Malayalam films such as Kilukkam, Spadikam, Dhruvam, and Devasuram. His style was defined by symphonic string orchestration fused with acoustic guitar and synth elements, creating a distinctive sound associated with major Mohanlal and Mammootty films of the late 1980s and 1990s. He also composed for Tamil films including Airport (1993) and Game (2002), and passed away on 3 February 2026 in Chennai following cardiac arrest, having composed music for over 150 Malayalam films and approximately 500 songs across multiple industries.
