Biography

Rao Gopal Rao was a Telugu cinema actor born on 14 January 1937 in Ganganapalli, East Godavari, Andhra Pradesh, primarily known for his menacing yet often comedic portrayals of villain roles across more than 400 films. He gained widespread recognition with Muthyala Muggu (1975) directed by Bapu, and went on to appear in landmark Telugu films including Kondaveeti Donga (1990), Gharana Mogudu (1992), and Nippu Ravva (1993). He received the prestigious Kala Prapoorna award in 1990 and served as a Member of the Rajya Sabha from 1986 to 1992, making him one of the rare Indian actors to hold a significant legislative position. His son is Telugu actor Rao Ramesh, and Rao Gopal Rao passed away on 13 August 1994 at the age of 57, leaving behind a legacy as one of Telugu cinema's most iconic character actors.
