• Kader Khan was already a top writer and character actor by 1984, but Birbal was a lesser-known director. They teamed up for 'Meri Adalat' because Birbal needed a strong villain to anchor his courtroom drama — and Khan agreed only after Birbal let him rewrite his own dialogues.
• On the set of 'Akalmand', Kader Khan would deliver his lines in multiple variations — comic, angry, deadpan — and Birbal would pick the take that best matched the scene's rhythm. Khan later said Birbal was the only director who let him 'audition' his own performance before the final cut.
• During the shoot of 'Sherni' (1988), Kader Khan and Birbal had a falling out over the film's climax. Khan wanted a darker ending; Birbal insisted on a commercial one. They never worked together again after that film.
• Kader Khan once told a trade magazine: 'Birbal sahab gave me the freedom to be a writer on set, not just an actor. But we disagreed on 'Sherni' — and that was it.'
