Trivia

  • The film's title 'Akalmand' means 'clever' or 'intelligent' in Hindi, which is ironic given the protagonist's poor decisions.
  • It was directed by Shibu Mitra, who was primarily known as an editor for many classic Hindi films.
  • The movie features actor Raj Kiran, who was a popular lead in the early 1980s but had a relatively short peak stardom.
  • The soundtrack was composed by Bappi Lahiri, known for his disco hits, but the songs from this film did not become major chartbusters.
  • A subplot involves cultural differences between a Tamil wife and Punjabi husband, a less common theme in mainstream Hindi cinema of that era.
  • The film's thriller elements, like disposing of a body, were unusual for a movie marketed as a comedy-romance at the time.
  • Despite starring well-known actors like Raj Kiran and Padmini Kolhapure, the film did not perform strongly at the box office.
