• Harmesh Malhotra cast Jagdeep as the comic sidekick in 'Nagina' (1986) after seeing his timing in 'Sholay' — but Jagdeep almost said no because the role was too small. Malhotra convinced him by promising to expand the part during shooting.
• In 'Sherni' (1988), Jagdeep improvised most of his dialogue on set. Harmesh Malhotra would let him run wild for two takes, then rein him in for the final one — the released version is a mix of both.
• The success of 'Nagina' (1986) directly led to 'Nigahen: Nagina Part II' (1989) — but Jagdeep was the only actor from the original cast to return for the sequel. Malhotra refused to make it without him.
• During the shoot of 'Nagina', Jagdeep would bring homemade snacks for the entire crew every Friday. Harmesh Malhotra later said that ritual became the only thing that kept the tense, snake-heavy set from falling apart.
• Jagdeep once said in an interview: 'Harmesh sahab gave me the freedom to be stupid on screen. Most directors want you to be funny in a box. He let me break the box.'
