• Shibu Mitra and Ranjeet first teamed up for 'Mujhe Vachan Do' (1983) because the director needed a villain who could also do comedy — Ranjeet was known for his menacing roles, but Mitra convinced him to play a grey-shaded character with a lighter touch.
• On the set of 'Maa Kasam' (1985), Ranjeet would deliberately flub his lines to make Shibu Mitra laugh during serious scenes — Mitra later said that Ranjeet's improvisations forced him to stay on his toes and sharpened his own timing.
• After 'Meri Zabaan' (1989) flopped, Ranjeet stopped returning Shibu Mitra's calls for nearly a decade — Mitra once told a trade magazine that he felt 'ghosted' by his own co-star.
• Shibu Mitra said in a 1992 interview: 'Ranjeet was the only actor who could make me forget the camera. When he was in the frame, I wasn't acting — I was reacting.'
