• Madhavan personally called Thambi Ramaiah to play the villain in Rendu (2006) after seeing his stage work. The director wanted a known face, but Madhavan insisted — and Thambi ended up stealing every scene.
• In Vettai (2012), Thambi Ramaiah's character was written as a loud, comic sidekick. But on set, Madhavan kept pushing him to underplay the comedy — the result was a deadpan villain that became the film's most quoted character.
• During Guru En Aalu (2009), Madhavan would drive Thambi Ramaiah home after every night shoot. They'd stop at the same tea stall near Madhavan's house and talk about old Tamil films for an hour. Neither has ever mentioned this in interviews.
