• Javed Khan was a struggling character actor when Madhu Malhotra personally insisted he be cast as the villain in Nakhuda (1981). She had seen him in a small stage play and told the director, 'If he's not in it, I walk.'
• On the set of Raat Ke Andhere Mein (1987), Madhu Malhotra would deliberately flub her lines in the first take just to make Javed Khan laugh. He'd then loosen up and deliver his best performance. She called it 'the icebreaker trick.'
• After Roohani Taaqat (1991) bombed, Javed Khan stopped returning Madhu Malhotra's calls. She later told a trade magazine, 'He blamed me for the film's failure. We never spoke again.'
• Madhu Malhotra once said in a 1992 interview: 'Javed was the only co-star who made me feel like I was acting opposite a mirror. He'd match my energy so perfectly that I forgot the camera existed.'
• Their only hit together, Nakhuda (1981), directly inspired a 1983 B-movie called Jahazi Badmash — a low-budget rip-off that launched the career of stunt director Babu Khan. He later became a regular on 90s action films.
• In Roohani Taaqat (1991), Javed Khan insisted on doing his own stunts because Madhu Malhotra had done hers. The director had to separate them during the climax scene — they kept trying to outdo each other's falls.
