Partnership facts

• For Dharma Chakkaram (1997), director S. A. Chandrasekhar wanted a fresh pair. Vijayakanth insisted on Pandu because he liked his comic timing in a stage play. That call got Pandu his first big break in a Vijayakanth film.
• On the sets of Devan (2002), Pandu would rewrite his own comedy lines on the spot. Vijayakanth loved it so much he told the director to let Pandu improvise every scene. That film’s funniest moments are pure Pandu, not the script.
• Vijayakanth personally drove Pandu to the hospital when he fell ill during Engal Aasan (2009) shoot. He waited outside the OT for four hours. Pandu later said that day he stopped seeing him as a star and started seeing him as an elder brother.
• Pandu once told a magazine: 'Vijayakanth sir never treated me like a side actor. He’d ask my opinion on his own dialogues. That’s why I gave my best for him.'
• The comedy track between Pandu and Vijayakanth in Dharma Chakkaram (1997) became a template for later 'hero-comic duo' films in Tamil. Several 2000s masala movies copied their back-and-forth rhythm — especially the scene where Pandu mimics the hero’s walk.
