• Pandu was already a veteran character actor when he cast a relatively new Arun Pandian as the lead in Muttrugai (1993). Arun later said Pandu trusted him with the role when bigger names had passed.
• In Asuran (1995), Pandu wrote the role of the father specifically for himself, then directed Arun Pandian to play his son with a raw, physical intensity that Arun hadn't shown before. Pandu's calm, measured performance became the anchor for Arun's explosive outbursts.
• Pandu and Arun Pandian stayed in touch long after Devan (2002) flopped. Arun later revealed that Pandu would call him every year on Pongal, just to check in — no film talk, no favors.
