• Sreekanth was a rising star when he personally requested Muthuraman to direct him in Piriya Vidai (1975). Muthuraman was hesitant — he usually worked with bigger names — but Sreekanth convinced him over a single coffee meeting.
• On the sets of Vazhndhu Kaattukiren (1975), Muthuraman would rewrite dialogues on the spot to match Sreekanth's natural, understated delivery. Sreekanth, in turn, would slow down his usual pace to let Muthuraman's emotional beats land. They built scenes by reacting, not performing.
• Perai Solla Oru Pillai (1978) was the first Tamil film to feature a child actor in a title role that wasn't a remake or a mythological. The boy, Master Sekhar, was launched directly because Sreekanth and Muthuraman wanted to try a father-son story without a star kid. Sekhar never got another lead role after this.
• After Perai Solla Oru Pillai wrapped, Sreekanth and Muthuraman never spoke again. No fight, no fallout — just drifted apart. Muthuraman later told a trade magazine that Sreekanth 'moved to a different circle' and they simply stopped calling each other.
• Muthuraman once said about Sreekanth: 'He was the only actor who would ask me why a scene worked, not just if it worked. That made me a better director.' — from a 1980 interview with Kumudam.
