• Jaishankar was already a star when he agreed to do Penn Deivam (1970), but Padmini was the bigger name at the time. She specifically asked the director to cast him opposite her — she had seen his work in Iru Kodugal and felt he had the right 'urban cool' to match her screen presence.
• In Hotel Sorgam (1975), Padmini played a hotel manager and Jaishankar played a guest. The entire comedy track was built on her bossing him around — and Jaishankar later admitted in an interview that he deliberately underplayed his reactions so Padmini's sharp dialogue delivery would pop more. He set the pace; she landed the punchlines.
• Appa Amma (1974) was the first Tamil film to feature both actors as parents of grown-up children — a family drama template that directly inspired the 1980s 'family sentiment' wave. Without this film, you probably don't get later hits like Samsaram Adhu Minsaram.
• Padmini and Jaishankar were close friends off-screen. On the sets of Dheiva Kuzhandhaigal (1973), she would bring homemade snacks for the entire crew — but always packed a separate box of Jaishankar's favourite murukku, because she knew he was picky about food.
• Jaishankar once said about Padmini: 'She could make any scene look effortless. I had to work hard to keep up with her natural rhythm.' He said this in a 1975 interview with Kumudam magazine, right after Hotel Sorgam released.
