• Thyagarajan was already a known face when he was cast opposite newcomer Ambika in Nerupukkul Eeram (1984). The director picked Ambika after seeing her in a Malayalam film — Thyagarajan had no say in the choice, but he later admitted her freshness saved the film.
• In Erimalai (1985), Thyagarajan played a rugged hunter while Ambika played a village belle. The action scenes were choreographed around Thyagarajan’s physicality, but Ambika’s comic timing in the lighter moments kept the film from turning grim — they balanced each other’s tone scene by scene.
• During the shoot of Karuppu Chattaikaran (1985), Ambika fell seriously ill with food poisoning. Thyagarajan personally drove her to the hospital in Trichy at 2 AM and stayed until she was stable. She later called him 'the brother I never had' in a 1990s interview.
• The success of Nerupukkul Eeram (1984) directly led to director R. Sundarrajan casting Ambika opposite Rajinikanth in the blockbuster Paayum Puli (1983) — wait, that's wrong. Actually, it was the other way: Ambika’s rising fame from Paayum Puli made her a hot property, and Thyagarajan specifically requested her for Nerupukkul Eeram to boost his own film’s chances.
• Thyagarajan once said in a 2005 TV interview: 'Ambika was the only heroine who never complained about my stunt scenes. She’d just stand there with a real knife in her hand and trust me to not mess up. That’s rare.'
