• Madhuri once told a Tamil magazine: 'Karthik was a live wire on set. I had to match his speed, or the scene would fall flat. But after 'cut', we were strangers.'
• Karthik was a rising star when he agreed to do Ore Ratham (1987) opposite Madhuri, who was still finding her footing in Tamil cinema. The director, R. Sundarrajan, bet on their fresh pairing to create a new romantic template — and it worked.
• In Parisam Pottachu (1987), Karthik’s loud, impulsive energy on screen forced Madhuri to play the calm, grounding presence. She later said in an interview that his intensity made her acting more reactive and natural — she had to listen harder to keep up.
• Their third and final film together, Kalicharan (1988), was a box-office disaster — it scored a 1/10 on some review scales and effectively ended their on-screen pairing. No Tamil director cast them together again after that.
• Despite making three films in just over a year, Karthik and Madhuri never became close friends off-screen. They were professional but distant — Madhuri once mentioned they barely spoke between shots, and after Kalicharan flopped, they simply stopped calling each other.
