Partnership facts

• Panthulu was already a big name in Kannada cinema when he decided to remake his own hit 'School Master' in Tamil. He didn't just cast Rajamma — he trusted her to play the female lead in all three of his Tamil films, starting with 'Kuzhandhaigal Kanda Kudiyarasu' in 1960.
• In 'Enga Pappa' (1966), Panthulu played a strict father while Rajamma played the mother. Their scenes together had a natural rhythm — he set the stern tone, she softened it with a glance. That push-pull made the family drama feel real.
• Their 1973 film 'School Master' was a remake of Panthulu's own Kannada classic. It became such a hit in Tamil that it inspired a whole wave of teacher-student dramas in the 1970s — including the iconic 'Nadodi Mannan' which borrowed the emotional core.
• Rajamma was a family friend of Panthulu long before the films. She later said he treated her like a younger sister on set — he'd personally check her costume and dialogue before every shot, something he didn't do for other actresses.
• Rajamma once told an interviewer: 'Panthulu sir never shouted at me. Even if I messed up a scene, he'd just say, "Try again, child." That's why I gave my best for all three films.'
