• Goundamani personally recommended Rupini for Teertha Karainelay (1987) after seeing her in a Malayalam film. The director was hesitant because she was new to Tamil, but Goundamani insisted she had the right comic timing.
• In Enna Petha Rasa (1989), Goundamani would deliberately flub his lines to make Rupini break character. She'd then improvise a comeback, and the director kept those takes because they felt more natural than the scripted version.
• Rupini once said in a 1990 interview that Goundamani would bring her homemade snacks from his wife on set because she was always complaining about the catering. He never did that for any other co-star.
