• Charlie wasn't the first choice for Purusha Lakshanam (1993). K. S. Ravikumar originally wanted a different comedian. Charlie auditioned twice before Ravikumar finally said yes — and that film became their first collaboration.
• On the sets of Sakthivel (1994), Ravikumar realized Charlie could turn even a throwaway line into a scene-stealing moment. So he started writing Charlie's parts last — after the script was locked — just to give him room to improvise.
• In Thenali (2000), Ravikumar deliberately paired Charlie with Kamal Haasan's character in long, unbroken takes. He knew Charlie's timing would force Kamal to react live — no cuts, no retakes. That scene where Charlie panics in the hospital? One continuous shot.
• After Thenali (2000), Ravikumar and Charlie never worked together again. No fallout — just drifted apart as Charlie moved into character roles and Ravikumar shifted to bigger star vehicles. They never publicly explained the gap.
• Ravikumar once said in an interview: 'Charlie doesn't act. He just reacts. That's why I kept casting him — he made my heroes look real.'
