• Their first film together, Nanban (2012), was a remake of 3 Idiots. Naren was cast as the strict father, but Manobala — who played the warden — actually recommended Naren to director Shankar after seeing his work in Aadukalam.
• In Kanithan (2016), Manobala played a corrupt politician and Naren played a police officer. They shot the confrontation scene in one take because both kept feeding each other improvised lines — the editor later said he had to trim it down because they wouldn't stop.
• On the sets of Thozha (2016), Naren and Manobala shared a vanity van for the entire shoot. Manobala would nap between shots, and Naren would wake him up exactly 2 minutes before his cue — a ritual they kept for all their later films together.
