• Saritha was already a star when she agreed to do Vandichakkaram (1980), but K. Vijayan was a debutant director. She took a risk on him because the script had a strong female lead — something rare in Tamil cinema then.
• In Aani Ver (1981), Vijayan wrote a scene where Saritha’s character had to cry while laughing. She nailed it in one take. He later said she taught him how to write for women — he’d just give her a situation and let her find the emotion.
• Koyil Puraa (1981) was the first Tamil film to use a single song to advance the plot rather than just as a break. That song — 'Koyil Puraa' — became a template for how directors like Bharathiraja later used music in rural dramas.
• During the shoot of Vandichakkaram, Saritha and Vijayan would argue for hours about a single line of dialogue. But after pack-up, they’d share a cup of tea and laugh about it. Their friendship survived because neither held grudges.
