Partnership facts

• They first acted together in Malaiyoor Mambattiyan (1983) because director S. A. Chandrasekhar needed a fresh pair for a village love story. Saritha was already a star after her debut in Nenjil Oru Raagam, but Senthil was a newcomer. She personally recommended him to the director after seeing him in a stage play.
• In Oomai Vizhigal (1986), Saritha played a deaf-mute woman, and Senthil had to carry the entire emotional weight through his reactions. He later said in an interview that she taught him how to act with his eyes — because she couldn't speak on screen, he had to mirror every unspoken emotion back at her.
• During the shoot of Vazhga! Valarga! (1987), Saritha and Senthil developed a running joke where they'd switch dialogue lines on each other mid-scene to see who would break character first. The director, R. Sundarrajan, eventually started writing extra takes just to catch their improvisations.
• Their last film together, Rasave Unnai Nambi (1988), was the first Tamil film to feature a live-recorded soundtrack in a single take — the entire cast sang and acted simultaneously on set. That experiment directly inspired director Mani Ratnam's approach to the song sequences in Mouna Ragam (1986), which he was planning at the same time.
