• Mohan was already a star when he signed 'Nenjamellam Neeye' (1983). But Rangaraj was a debutant director. The producer was nervous. Mohan insisted he trusted Rangaraj's script. That film became a hit and launched Rangaraj's career.
• Rangaraj had a habit of writing scenes the night before shooting. Mohan loved the spontaneity. On 'Uyire Unakkaga' (1986), Mohan would arrive on set without knowing his lines — Rangaraj would hand him the dialogue sheet minutes before the camera rolled. Mohan delivered them in one take.
• Their 1985 film 'Udaya Geetham' introduced a young composer named Ilaiyaraaja to a wider romantic audience. The soundtrack became a cult classic. Every song is still played at Tamil weddings. That film directly inspired a wave of soft-romance musicals in the late 80s.
• After 'Padu Nilavae' (1987), they never worked together again. No fight. No fallout. Rangaraj simply moved to TV serials. Mohan shifted to character roles. But they stayed in touch. Rangaraj once said Mohan was the only actor who never asked him for a script change.
• Rangaraj told a magazine in 1990: 'Mohan doesn't act. He just becomes the character. I didn't direct him — I just pointed the camera.'
