• Mohan and Manorama first paired up in Archanai Pookal (1982) because director S. A. Chandrasekhar thought their contrasting energies — his quiet intensity, her raw emotional power — would create a spark on screen. He was right.
• In Antha Sila Naatkal (1983), Manorama’s improvisation pushed Mohan to drop his rehearsed style. She once changed a line mid-scene, and he had to react live — that take made the final cut.
• Their film Saranalayam (1983) directly inspired director Balu Mahendra to cast them together again in a darker role reversal — but the project never materialized. The script still circulates among old-timers.
• On the sets of Anni (1985), Mohan and Manorama had a running bet: whoever flubbed a line first had to buy the entire crew filter coffee. Manorama lost twice, but she never paid — she said Mohan owed her for making him look good.
• Manorama once said about Mohan: 'He made me act with my eyes closed. I trusted him so much, I didn't need to see the scene.' — from a 1987 interview with Kumudam.
• In Vasanthi (1988), Mohan deliberately slowed his dialogue delivery to match Manorama’s natural rhythm. The result was a scene where they spoke over each other — and it became the only watchable part of that 3.2-rated film.
