• They first met on the set of Mohre (1987), but Nana almost didn't get the role. Director Rajkumar Kohli wanted a bigger star. Madhuri, already a rising name, insisted on Nana after seeing his stage work. She told Kohli: 'He's the one or I walk.'
• In Parinda (1989), Nana's raw, unpredictable energy forced Madhuri to drop her trained, polished style. She later said he made her 'act with her gut, not her head.' The scene where she slaps him in the rain was unscripted — Nana goaded her into it mid-shot.
• Their pairing in Prahaar (1991) directly inspired the casting of Manisha Koirala and Nana in Khamoshi: The Musical (1996). Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali said he watched Prahaar obsessively to study how Nana could play tender opposite a younger, softer actress.
• During Wajood (1998), Nana would show up to set two hours early just to rehearse with Madhuri. She called him 'the most punctual chaos I've ever known.' They'd share chai and argue about poetry — Nana reciting Marathi verses, Madhuri countering with Hindi couplets.
• Madhuri once said: 'Nana doesn't act with you — he attacks you. And if you don't attack back, the scene dies. He made me fearless.' She said this in a 1999 interview about their four-film journey.
