• S. A. Chandrasekhar cast Nizhalgal Ravi as the villain in Needhikku Dhandanai (1987) after seeing his intense performance in a small role in another film. Ravi was so eager to work with the director that he cleared his entire schedule for the shoot.
• On the sets of Idhu Engal Needhi (1988), Chandrasekhar would let Ravi improvise his dialogue delivery during villain monologues. Ravi’s natural rhythm forced the director to rewrite several scenes on the spot to match his pacing.
• Poovum Puyalum (1988) was the first Tamil film where Chandrasekhar used a handheld camera for a chase sequence — a technique he learned from watching Ravi’s body language during rehearsals. That style later became his signature in the 1990s.
• After Nenjinile (1999) flopped, Chandrasekhar and Ravi stopped speaking for nearly a decade. They only reconciled in 2010 at a mutual friend’s wedding, where Ravi reportedly told Chandrasekhar, “You still owe me a good script.”
