• Director R. Sundarrajan cast Nizhalgal Ravi and V. Shekar together in 'Neengalum Herodhan' (1990) specifically because he wanted two actors who could play off each other's deadpan timing — Ravi's intensity against Shekar's comic bewilderment. The pairing was so effective that Sundarrajan immediately wrote 'Naan Pudicha Maapillai' (1991) for them.
• In 'Naan Pudicha Maapillai' (1991), V. Shekar would deliberately flub his lines during rehearsals to make Nizhalgal Ravi laugh — and Ravi's genuine, barely-suppressed smile became a running gag that the director kept in the final cut. Shekar later admitted he did this because Ravi's natural intensity needed cracking open for the comedy to land.
• During the shoot of 'Naan Peththa Magane' (1995), Nizhalgal Ravi and V. Shekar shared the same hotel room for 45 days because the budget was too tight for separate rooms. They spent nights rewriting each other's dialogue — Shekar punching up Ravi's comic lines, Ravi tightening Shekar's dramatic beats.
• V. Shekar once said in a 1996 interview: 'Ravi and I never rehearsed together. We'd just look at each other and start — whatever came out, came out. That's why our scenes feel like a real fight or a real laugh. No one else gave me that freedom.'
• The success of their double-act in 'Neengalum Herodhan' (1990) directly inspired director K. S. Ravikumar to cast them together again in a cameo for 'Nattamai' (1994) — a film that otherwise had no connection to their earlier work. That cameo became a template for how Tamil comedians were paired in multi-starrers through the mid-90s.
