Biography
V. Sekhar (also spelled Shekar/Sekar) was a Tamil cinema director known for family-oriented dramas and social comedies that depicted the struggles of middle- and lower-middle-class households. His most notable films include Pongalo Pongal (1997) and Ellame En Pondattidhan (1998), and he directed approximately 18 Tamil films over a career spanning from his debut Neengalum Herothan (1990) through Namma Veetu Kalyanam (2002). Drawing from his own background as a former Corporation health worker, his films consistently centered on domestic family conflicts and social issues, frequently drawing comparisons to director Visu in thematic focus. He passed away on 14 November 2025 at Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre, Chennai, after a career that also included Tamil television serials on Sun TV and Raj TV.
