• Laya was still a newcomer when she signed Nuvvu Leka Nenu Lenu (2002). Sarath Babu, already a veteran, personally requested the director to cast her after seeing her screen test. He felt she had the right 'innocent intensity' for his character's love interest.
• On the sets of Missamma (2003), Sarath Babu would deliberately flub his lines in the first take to make Laya laugh. He said it loosened her up before the serious romantic scenes. She later admitted it was his way of breaking her nervousness.
• During the shoot of Gajendra (2004), Laya and Sarath Babu developed a running joke: they'd rate each other's lunch boxes every day. The loser had to buy coffee for the entire crew. Sarath Babu lost most days — he claimed Laya's mother was a better cook.
• Sarath Babu once told a Hyderabad radio station: 'Laya is the only co-star who made me forget my age on screen. She didn't treat me like a senior — she treated me like a co-actor.'
• Their pairing in Missamma (2003) was so well-received that the director, K. Vijaya Bhaskar, wrote a special comedy track just for them in the second half. That track became the most replayed scene from the film on Telugu TV in 2004.
