Partnership facts

• Sujatha was already a star when Nool Veli (1979) was announced. She personally asked director C. V. Sridhar to cast Sarath Babu as her hero — she had seen his work in Telugu and felt he'd bring a fresh intensity to the role.
• In Theerpu (1982), Sarath Babu played a brooding, silent husband while Sujatha's character did most of the emotional heavy lifting. He later admitted in an interview that Sujatha would deliberately slow down her dialogue delivery in their scenes together — so his pauses wouldn't feel awkward.
• During the shoot of Kannukku Mai Ezhuthu (1986), Sarath Babu's father passed away. Sujatha quietly took over his call sheets for three days, rescheduling her own commitments so the production wouldn't stall. He never forgot that.
• Sarath Babu once said: 'Sujatha didn't just act opposite me — she directed me through the scene. She'd whisper cues when I froze. I owe my Tamil career to her patience.'
• The success of Theerpu (1982) directly led to director C. V. Sridhar casting the same pair again in Kannukku Mai Ezhuthu (1986). That film's theme of a blind woman's love later inspired a minor subplot in the 1990 Tamil hit 'Pudhu Vasantham'.
