Partnership facts

• Nassar actually directed Suriya in Kaadhale Nimmadhi (1998). It was Suriya's second film ever, and Nassar, already a veteran character actor, stepped behind the camera to launch him as a romantic lead.
• On the set of Vel (2007), Nassar played Suriya's on-screen father. Off-screen, he reportedly coached Suriya through the film's dual-role performance — the first time Suriya had to play two distinct characters in one movie.
• After Kaadhale Nimmadhi flopped, Nassar didn't work with Suriya for nine years. They only reunited for Vel because director Hari specifically wanted Nassar as the father — and Suriya personally called Nassar to convince him to take the role.
• Suriya once said in an interview: 'Nassar sir gave me my first break as a director. I owe him that confidence. When he says a scene works, I don't need a second opinion.'
• Their third and final film together, Si3 (2017), was the only time they played outright antagonists to each other — Nassar as the villain and Suriya as the hero. It was also the last film Suriya made with that franchise.
