• Dhileban was a first-time director when he cast Sampath Raj in Vatthikuchi (2013). He had no track record, but Sampath trusted the script and signed on without a formal narration — just a 10-minute pitch over chai.
• In Kaala (2018), Sampath Raj played the antagonist to Rajinikanth. Dhileban deliberately wrote the role to push Sampath out of his comfort zone — no dialogue-heavy scenes, just physical menace. Sampath later said Dhileban made him act with his eyes, not his mouth.
