Partnership facts

• Sivachandran was a newcomer when Sivaji Ganesan personally recommended him for Natchathiram (1980). The director wanted a bigger name, but Sivaji insisted — he saw something in the younger actor's screen test that nobody else did.
• In Vellai Roja (1983), Sivaji deliberately slowed down his dialogue delivery in every scene with Sivachandran. He told the crew he wanted the younger actor's natural rhythm to lead the conversation — a rare move from a star who usually set the pace himself.
• During the shoot of Needhiyin Nizhal (1985), Sivachandran's father passed away. Sivaji Ganesan quietly paid for all the funeral arrangements and didn't tell anyone until years later. Sivachandran only found out from a production assistant.
• Sivachandran once said in a 1990 interview: 'Sivaji sir treated me like his own son on set. He would correct my body language, not just my lines. I learned more from those four films than from ten years of acting school.'
• Their last film together, Naam (1985), was a sleeper hit that directly inspired the buddy-cop genre in Tamil cinema. Years later, director Suresh Krissna said he rewatched Naam before making Baashha (1995) — to study how two actors of different generations could share screen space without one overpowering the other.
