• Pandari Bai once told a magazine: 'Kanchana akka never treated me like a co-star. She treated me like her real daughter. On the set of Shanti Nilayam, she would fix my saree before every shot.'
• Kanchana was already a star when she agreed to play Pandari Bai's mother in Motor Sundaram Pillai (1966). Pandari Bai was only 10 years younger, but the age gap on screen didn't matter — Kanchana's gravitas made it believable.
• In Shanti Nilayam (1969), Kanchana played the strict mother-in-law while Pandari Bai was the suffering daughter-in-law. Off-camera, Pandari Bai later said Kanchana would rehearse her lines with her before every take, teaching her how to hold back tears for the big emotional scenes.
