• Manobala was a veteran character actor and director. He cast Sabha Swaminathan in Mappilai Vinayagar (2015) after seeing him in a small TV skit. That film was Sabha's first proper break in cinema.
• On the set of Mapla Singam (2016), Manobala let Sabha rewrite his own lines. Sabha turned a one-note sidekick into a scene-stealer. The director later said he learned to trust actors more because of that film.
