• Manobala didn't just cast Jayaram in Naina (2002) — he rewrote the entire role around him. The script originally had a different actor in mind, but after a single meeting, Manobala scrapped the old draft and tailored the character to Jayaram's easygoing, slightly vulnerable screen presence.
• On the set of Thuppakki (2012), Manobala played the straight man to Jayaram's comic timing. Manobala would deliberately slow down his delivery in scenes, giving Jayaram a split-second pause to land a punchline. Jayaram later said that rhythm was something he never got from other directors.
• Manobala and Jayaram shared a running joke: every time they finished a film, Manobala would hand Jayaram a single ₹10 coin. 'For the next one,' he'd say. Jayaram kept all three coins in his wallet for years.
• Thuppakki (2012) was the film that made Jayaram a household name in Tamil Nadu. Before that, he was seen as a Malayalam import. Manobala's casting — and the way he let Jayaram play the comedy against Vijay's intensity — directly opened the door for Jayaram's later Tamil hits like Oru Kal Oru Kannadi.
