• Manobala was already a busy character actor when Bhanupriya was cast opposite him in Muttrugai (1993). But here's the twist: Manobala also directed that film. So he literally cast himself as her love interest. He later admitted he was nervous acting opposite a star like her while also directing the scene.
• In Annai (2000), Bhanupriya played a mother to Manobala's character. That flipped their dynamic completely — from romantic pair in Muttrugai to mother-son. She was only a few years younger than him in real life, but she pulled off the authority so well that Manobala said he actually felt like a kid on set.
• Manobala and Bhanupriya stayed in touch for decades after their first film. When he directed Nagesh Thiraiyarangam (2018), he wrote a small but pivotal role specifically for her. She agreed immediately, no questions asked. That film became their only hit together.
• Bhanupriya once said in an interview: 'Manobala sir knows exactly how to extract a performance from me without making me feel like I'm acting. He just sets the mood and lets me breathe.' She said this while promoting Nagesh Thiraiyarangam.
• Nagesh Thiraiyarangam (2018) was a tribute to legendary comedian Nagesh. Manobala and Bhanupriya's reunion in that film reminded audiences of old-school Tamil cinema's actor-director collaborations. It directly inspired a small wave of tribute films in Tamil indie circles the following year.
