Manobala later told a magazine that he pulled Atlee aside and said, 'You're not an assistant — you're a director. Start your own film.' That conversation pushed Atlee to write his first script.
• On Theri (2016), Manobala played a comedic sidekick. Atlee let him improvise entire dialogues on the spot — and then kept the first take every time. Manobala later said Atlee was the only director who never asked him to stick to the script.
